Register a Qortal Name

A Qortal name is needed to publish QDN resources from the MERIT Q-App. Your name becomes the publisher identity for your group listing, circle profile, or public mission records.

Why You Need a Qortal Name

In the MERIT Q-App, your Qortal name is your identity. When you publish a group listing, it's published under your name. When you create a circle profile, it's tied to your name. When witnesses attest to your commitments, their attestations reference their names. A Qortal name is how the network knows who published what — without a corporate account system.

You can use your real name (MarkSmith), a brotherhood name (IronOak), or a circle name (KelownaBrothers). The choice is yours. MERIT supports pseudonymity — a man should be able to be accountable without being exposed to the whole internet.

How to Register a Name

  1. Open Qortal and ensure your account is set up
  2. Navigate to the Names section in the Qortal interface
  3. Search for the name you want — names are unique and first-come, first-registered
  4. If available, register the name (a small QORT coin fee may apply)
  5. Once registered, the name is yours — it appears in your account and can be used in Q-Apps

Name registration requires a small amount of QORT coin. Most new accounts receive enough to register at least one name. Check the Qortal FAQ if you need help obtaining QORT.
